Can the Serve America Act Help Save America?

Senator Edward Kennedy, President Barrack Obama, Senator Orrin Htach

Get ready for the next generation of philanthropists.  A New Bill will boost the efforts to encourage more volunteerism and civic engagement in America.  This bill is one that was once an interest of President Barrack Obama when he served as Senator Obama of Illinois.  It remains a primary interest of President Obama and is called the Serve America Act.  The Serve America Act is a bi-partisan bill introduced by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Senator Edward Kennedy  (D-Massachusetts).

In short, the Serve America Act allows for more support to improve community service with an emphasis on developing the volunteerism among youth and elderly.  To this end, it also promises to concentrate resources in the neediest of communities while helping successful efforts to sustain.

As with other new bills, grant dollars will be allocated to help ensure that plans to demonstrate the value of the bill get a chance for implementation.  One of the sources for distributing these grants and related funds will be the Corporation for National Community Service .

While the Serve America Act targets initiatives to increase volunteerism, the underlying benefits will impact the economy.  The proponents of this bill are certainly aware that the most valuable resource remains the human resource.  As people are indoctrinated with the mindset of giving for meaningful causes, they also become more engaged with their own communities.

One of the greatest threats to a civilization is the disassociation of their citizens.  It does not take much insight to realize that America is in great need of an infusion of citizenship.  As the American economy begins a grueling healing process, there needs to be a recovery effort that offers hope and good old fashioned patriotism.

President Obama and other members of the senate have committed to aggressively push for the Serve America Act.  Perhaps they believe that the reengagement of community and the rebuilding of neighborhoods is a prescription for restructuring a healthy and prosperous America.  The Serve America Act may be one of the most significant elements of a holistic treatment plan to heal our nation.
